When I think of Lent, I think of daffodils. To bloom, daffodils must have a period of quiet (twelve to sixteen weeks) underground in the silent, cool darkness. During that time, a daffodil slowly develops roots as it takes in nutrients from the soil. It then goes dormant, resting, before beginning the inner formation of the future flower. Finally the leaves push through the soil to the light, the first sign of the inner silent growth.
