When I think of Lent, I think of daffodils. To bloom, daffodils must have a period of quiet (twelve to sixteen weeks) underground in the silent, cool darkness. During that time, a daffodil slowly develops roots as it takes in nutrients from the soil. It then goes dormant, resting, before beginning the inner formation of the future flower.
